Carbon nano tubes is the new black

Apparently, some researchers have developed a new material that is so black, it absorbs more than 99.9% of all light, making it the darkest material known to man. According to this Reuters post, the substance is more than three times darker than the current holder of the Guiness world record in “darkness”. This bit made me smile:

Made from tiny tubes of carbon standing on end, this material is almost 30 times darker than a carbon substance used by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology as the current benchmark of blackness.

The current benchmark of blackness?
